The sun was kind enough to grace the eight teams competing at this year’s Kinnaird and Sward Trophy. Due to clashing with the first YDL a lot of the teams were solely relying on their senior athletes and were unfortunately fielding smaller teams then they would like.
It quickly become apparent that it would be a two horse race between KACPH and Achilles for the two trophies. In the end Achilles won the 92nd Kinnaird match with a score 234 points over 50 points ahead of the home club KACPH. Thought Kingston once again showed their strength in the field events by regaining the Sward trophy with 190 points just under 70 points ahead of Achilles in second.
The RS Hawkes Trophy (400m) was won by Herne Hill for a second year running although by a different athlete of Nicholas Atwel in 48.21 seconds. The CT Leslie Trophy (800m) was won by John Duggan (KACPH) in 1.57.70 seconds. Both athletes were presented their Trophies by David Barrington who kept the Kinnaird and Sward match going for the past 30 years.
Those members who have been with the clubs for numerous years will be aware that the Kinnaird and Sward match has great historical references and is one of last matches of its kind still running. A feat that KACPH is very proud of. Full results from the day are on Power of Ten.
Huge thank you to Surrey Athletics Association who helped provide officials throughout the day and the EDM and Photo finish. Whose help we would not be able to do without on the day, as well as Peter Shilling and KACPH committee who helped put the day together.
